JULY 10 th

2010

The time has come to make a last stand regarding plans to build a Tesco on the River Brett site.

Tesco's application was to be considered by Babergh Planning Committee on the 14th July at 9.30am at the Town Hall in Hadleigh.  Unfortunately, Babergh had to cancel this Planning Meeting because they are to seek further legal advice on environmental concerns.  So, after 12 years of fighting we now have to wait another few months.  The meeting is to be held in September 2010 at the earliest.

On Saturday 10th July at 12.45 pm Hands off Hadleigh is staging  an  event (approx 45 mins  - 1 hour max to avoid sporting fixtures) for coverage by local media.  The plan is to meet in the Bridge Street Car Park (by allotments and opposite side of river to Babergh Council offices)   A strong turnout is vital to illustrate widespread concern about the choice of site. We would really appreciate it if you could join us and help spread the word as widely as possible to  family and friends of all ages who do not want a Tesco on the River Walk.

The aim is to have a mass turnout to illustrate to Babergh the level of feeling in the town and neighbouring villages.  Access on a bend on a bridge and safety are the two key issues that Babergh have to consider .  With this in mind, the aim is to link hands across the bridge down to the allotments and the wet grassland that is of scarce resource in the county.   Weather permitting we hope that a microlite will take an aerial shot to provide a different angle and to put the site and access route across allotments and grassland  in context.

Do please join us on the 10th July, 12:45 pm on Bridge Street Car Park.    If possible,  please bring a banner/s that will help to enhance photo opportunities and make our presence look greater.  We hope that there will be live music and a couple of speakers to help add to the atmosphere.

Hadleigh Local Food

Many people have asked for visits to be arranged to local producers and two have been arranged for June. The first is to Partridges Farm at Layham on the evening of Wednesday, 24th June at 6.30pm to walk round the farm with Charles Partridge and see how the produce for the shop is grown. The second is to find out more about our local meat, how to choose it, the various cuts and ways to use them. This will be at The Jolly Butchers (Pierrepoint's old shop) at 10.30am on Tuesday, 30th June where Sam and Charlie will talk about their local meat suppliers and explain about the various cuts of meat and the best uses for them.

Both these visits are free of charge but numbers are restricted. To book a place contact Jane Haylock on 01473 827752 or call in at The Idler. A visit to Hollowtrees and the adjoining fruit farm will be arranged in July.
